A personal discovery became a product
ChatGPT Video Editor began with something practical: I wanted to edit my videos using ChatGPT. Figuring out how to do that changed the way I thought about directing an edit. Instead of starting with a timeline, I could start with the result I wanted and describe it in words.
That experience is the foundation of this site. I created ChatGPT Video Editor to share a way of approaching video editing through prompts, reference videos, and creative decisions. The idea is to make the direction you have in your head easier to communicate.
This is a creator-led project. The story behind it is my own experience editing my videos, and the purpose of the site is to help you understand the workflow before deciding whether it fits yours.
Start with the edit you want
A reference video gives an editing conversation something concrete to work from. It can communicate pacing, caption placement, visual emphasis, and the overall feel you want more clearly than a broad instruction such as “make it professional.”
The approach described here brings together your footage, a reference, and your feedback. You explain what matters, review the proposed direction, and ask for revisions. The creative goal remains yours throughout that process.
You do not have to want every part of a reference. You might like its captions but prefer slower cuts, or want similar graphics with a quieter visual style. Being specific about those choices is part of directing a useful edit.
What matters to me
- Useful direction: prompts should explain an actual editing decision, not simply add more effects.
- Creative control: reviewing the direction should be part of the process, not an afterthought.
- Respect for the footage: the edit should support the message you recorded.
- Clear expectations: visitors should understand the price, workflow, and role of external tools before purchasing.
Different videos need different treatment. An educational explanation, a product walkthrough, and an interview will not always benefit from the same rhythm or level of visual activity. A useful workflow should leave room for those differences.
An independent project
ChatGPT Video Editor is an independent project created by Folajomi Ballo. It is not an OpenAI product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. References to ChatGPT describe the tool involved in the workflow.
This website explains the product and directs visitors to the linked checkout. It does not contain a browser-based footage uploader or a video-rendering interface. Review the current product listing for access instructions and requirements.

Help shape what comes next
Questions about setup, confusing instructions, and feedback about the kind of videos you make can all help identify where clearer guidance is needed. If you reach out, explain what you are trying to create and where you are getting stuck.
